Hi all,
Action Items:
In science this week, students began (and some have finished) working on creating a food chain based off an animal of their choosing. They had to do a bit of research in order to get the information they needed, so it was good practice! Students also learned a new math game called Pig Out! to practice their multiplication facts. If they want to do more practice at home, they can teach you how to play. You can find the directions and links for online dice rollers on the Math Resources page (found on the Resources tab of this website). We are also getting close to another classroom celebration, so look for more news on that soon! Picture Day is tomorrow and all forms need to be turned in when students get their picture taken. Pictures can also be pre-ordered online, I have included the link below. If you need help, you can call Beltrami at 802-864-4967. Just a heads up that I am going to be out October 13th, 14th, and 17th as I am getting married on the 15th. Melinda Tate will be substituting for me on those 3 days, which is really great because she was a long-term substitute for some of our 4th graders last year! She is a retired Orchard teacher so she knows the school and some of the students, so we are lucky to have her! Have a great afternoon! Sincerely, Ms. Petzold

Greetings families!
I hope you are all doing well this rainy week! Students have been getting into their routines, with their Literacy Menu starting this week. We start off by getting spelling words on Mondays and then students work on the week's literacy work independently. With our menu, students get to choose when they work on certain items and practice time management skills so they can make sure to finish all required work by the end of the week. Reminders: - Tomorrow, Friday, September 23rd is our first early release day. Dismissal will begin at 12:30 - Friday, September 30th (next Friday) is Picture Day! This week I sent home a Picture Day order form. Those forms are due on Picture Day. Any late forms are subject to a late fee and should be returned to Beltrami, not to school. It's also important that each student only turns in 1 form. If there is more than one household that is ordering photos, there needs to be communication so that only 1 form is filled out. Below I have included some photos of the marvelous creations that students have made during our Morning choice time and during our Maker Space Brain Break (every Thursday). There is also a photo of a project that students completed to go along with our first Beginning With Books read aloud (formerly Reading to Raise Anti-Racists). Students researched the history of their name to show how we are all unique! Please let me know if you have any questions! Have a wonderful week! Sincerely, Ms. Petzold Hello everyone!
I hope you are having a fantastic Thursday! Students earned 100 apple cards this week and celebrated on Wednesday by making their own playlists that they can listen to during certain work times. Students have also been working really hard on our online district assessments over the past few days. We hopefully only have 1 more day to go! We also began our new science unit this week: Web of Life. Today students learned about Food Chains and played a game to practice what they learned. Tomorrow is our first official Book Buddy day! We are meeting with Ms. Adam's class every other week to complete activities and read with our K buddies. Students did a great job last week when we got a chance to meet Ms. Adam's class, so I'm excited to see them continue to show leadership skills. Just a heads up as the weather gets colder that I do like to keep the windows open as long as possible to keep fresh air in our classroom, so if students have been cold, they are welcome to bring an extra layer and leave it at school. They each have a cubby and a hook in the classroom that they may use. We also have our first Seed Time as a school tomorrow! Students will be mixed with other students from grades 3-5 and work with another teacher in the school. The goal is for them to form a positive relationship with another adult in the building as well as students in other grades. This is also a great opportunity for 5th graders to be leaders! Just a heads up that next Friday (not tomorrow) is our first Early Release day. Dismissal will start at 12:30. I hope you all have a great afternoon! Sincerely, Ms. Petzold Hello everyone!
Can you believe we are already in our second week of school?! Today was our first Social Emotional Learning Lesson, which was about empathy and respect. Students brought home a worksheet that is OPTIONAL to complete. They can work on it with an adult or with a sibling if they would like. I do not need these back at all, it's just an optional extension activity. We do not have any homework in 5th grade until students begin working on their Civil War Projects in the spring. I don't have anything else so far this week, but please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Have a great afternoon! Sincerely, Ms. Petzold |
